Welcome to Oakbrook, New York!
Thirty years ago, the town of Oakbrook, a fictional suburb in New York, was turned upside down. There had been tension between social classes for years, but nobody dared to stand up to the violence, discrimination and overall wrongdoings that were happening in the town. That is, until 1983, when a group of teenagers were sick of living in poverty, enduring violence, and overall being treated like they were less than the wealthy. They planned what they considered to be a revolution and murdered the Lockwood family, a wealthy family who were known for discrimination and getting away with playing dirty and scoffing at those who were less fortunate than them.
After the murder of the Lockwood family, extreme measures were taken. Oakbrook was divided into East Oak and West Oak. East Oak being home to the elite and wealthy, while West Oak became home to those who were barely scraping by. The corner convenience store that had been built on Oak Street in the eighties became the way of separating the two parts of town from another. Oak Street is considered the main street of Oakbrook that serves as the line between East Oak and West Oak.
Although these actions were taken because of a murder that has given West Oak citizens a terrible name and it served to alleviate tensions and create a better society, hardly anything has changed. Crime still runs rampant and East Oak and West Oak citizens are hardly civilized to one another. The illusion of a well put together society is so strong that people on the outside think that the town has solved all of their problems since the murder in the eighties, but that’s hardly it.
East Oak citizens are offered a lot more opportunities including better jobs and schooling while West Oak citizens feel trapped in their tiny run down apartments, struggling to make income or get a good education.
The citizens of West Oak face repercussions for actions they didn't take, but are still held responsible for because it was people of 'their kind.'

The wealthy can get away with a lot and their actions are often overlooked, while the poor are watched too closely. In a dystopian-like society where nothing is as it seems, the only ones who can shatter the illusion are the youth who will stand up and speak their mind…hopefully.
